Cultural Display Typeface
The display typeface represented here is a combination of clothing and decorative elements from two cultures, the Indian and Irish. From my Irish culture, I choose the Aran sweater; although a newer article of clothing compared to others, the curves fit very well into the type. For the Indian culture, the Bindi was used. To take this design further I researched the deeper meanings of the stitches of the sweater and the Bindi. There are many patterns for these sweaters, but the specific pattern I chose to represent was the Plaited, or braided, stitch. This pattern represents the interweaving strands of life, and the Bindi signifies marriage and their role as the family protector. I felt that these meanings melded well with each other to create an elegant, but flowing, display typeface.
